Key Responsibilities
The daily duties of a CCIE certified network engineer often involve a blend of strategic planning, hands-on implementation, and operational support.
Key responsibilities include:
• Network Architecture and Design: Designing and implementing complex network solutions to meet business requirements. This includes creating high-level and low-level network diagrams and documentation.
• Implementation and Configuration: Configuring and installing various network devices and services, such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Acting as the highest escalation point for resolving complex network outages and performance issues. This involves deep packet analysis and root cause analysis.
• Network Security: Implementing and managing network security policies and solutions, including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and access control lists.
• Performance and Optimization: Monitoring network performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing network infrastructure for efficiency and reliability.
• Project Management: Leading and participating in network-related projects from conception to completion.
Skill Requirements
Qualifications and Skills
To succeed in this role, a candidate must possess a specific set of qualifications and a diverse range of skills.
Required Qualifications:
• CCIE Certification: A valid Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert certification in a relevant track, such as Enterprise Infrastructure, Security, Service Provider, or Collaboration.
• Experience: Typically, a minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience in network engineering, with a significant portion in a senior or lead role.
• Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field like Computer Science, Information Technology, or Telecommunications is often preferred.
Technical Skills:
• Expert-level knowledge of routing and switching protocols: This includes BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and Spanning Tree Protocol.
• Proficiency with Cisco hardware and software: In-depth experience with Cisco routers (ISR, ASR), switches (Catalyst, Nexus), and firewalls (ASA, Firepower).
• Strong understanding of network security concepts: Expertise in VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL), firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Familiarity with various network technologies: This can include SD-WAN, MPLS, QoS, and data center networking.
• Knowledge of different CCIE tracks specifically sophisticated data center networking working experience
• Ability to manage projects and work under pressure.
