Job Summary
The Chief Architect is the senior technical authority responsible for defining and governing the organization’s enterprise-wide architecture vision. The role translates business strategy into scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-effective technology roadmaps; ensures coherence across products, platforms, data, infrastructure, integration, and security; and guides major transformation and investment decisions. The Chief Architect leads the architecture practice, partners with executive and delivery leaders, and ensures that architectural intent is converted into measurable business and engineering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture vision and strategy: Define, communicate, and maintain the enterprise architecture vision, principles, target state, and multi-year roadmap aligned with business priorities.
- Business–technology alignment: Translate business capabilities, value streams, and operating-model needs into technology strategies and investment priorities.
- Architecture governance: Establish decision rights, standards, reference architectures, design review processes, exception management, and technical-debt controls.
- Solution oversight: Provide direction for complex, cross-domain solutions and validate that designs meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- Platform and technology strategy: Guide choices for cloud, applications, data, integration, APIs, infrastructure, AI, security, and engineering tooling.
- Roadmaps and portfolio rationalization: Develop transition roadmaps, identify reuse and consolidation opportunities, and reduce duplication, obsolescence, and unnecessary complexity.
- Security and resilience: Embed security, privacy, regulatory compliance, reliability, disaster recovery, and business continuity into architecture decisions.
- Transformation leadership: Shape major modernization, migration, product, and digital-transformation programs from concept through delivery.
- Technical risk management: Identify systemic risks, dependencies, constraints, and architectural trade-offs; recommend mitigation plans to senior stakeholders.
- Architecture practice leadership: Lead and mentor enterprise, domain, solution, and technical architects; define role expectations, methods, reusable assets, and communities of practice.
- Stakeholder engagement: Serve as a trusted adviser to business executives, product leaders, engineering, operations, cybersecurity, finance, procurement, and delivery teams.
- Vendor and investment evaluation: Assess strategic technologies, partners, commercial proposals, and build-versus-buy options for fitness, risk, interoperability, and total cost of ownership.
- Innovation and emerging technology: Monitor relevant technology trends, lead proof-of-value initiatives, and recommend adoption where there is a clear business case.
- Delivery assurance: Track conformance to approved architectures and ensure that deviations, assumptions, and decisions are documented and resolved.
- Measurement and reporting: Define architecture metrics and report progress, value realization, risk reduction, reuse, performance, resilience, and technology-health indicators.
