Role Overview
The MBSE Engineer will support Digital Transformation initiatives through the deployment, evaluation, integration, testing, and continuous improvement of the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tool suite. The role is responsible for enabling a unified enterprise approach to systems engineering where requirements, functional architectures, logical architectures, physical architectures, and associated design artifacts are authored, managed, analyzed, and maintained within a single integrated data model.
The engineer will work closely with Systems Engineering, Digital Transformation, Architecture, and Tool Development teams to evaluate emerging MBSE technologies, assess tool integrations, develop test frameworks, and ensure successful adoption of MBSE methodologies across programs.

1. Open-Source MBSE Tool Evaluation
Upon receipt of approved Open Source Evaluation Requests (OSERs), the engineer shall:
- Acquire and configure approved open-source MBSE tools in accordance with organizational software acquisition policies and processes.
- Install and deploy tools on designated computing environments.
- Perform technical evaluations of open-source software for suitability within the MBSE tool suite.
- Assess tool capabilities including:
- Requirements Management
- Architecture Modeling
- Model Exchange Standards
- Data Integration
- Traceability
- Configuration Management
- Simulation and Analysis
- Conduct functional, technical, usability, and compatibility assessments.
- Document findings, recommendations, risks, and limitations.
- Prepare and deliver evaluation reports and summaries using approved templates within committed timelines.
- Support proof-of-concept demonstrations and pilot implementations.
2. MBSE Tool Integration Assessment
The engineer shall:
- Evaluate interoperability and integration between identified MBSE tools and associated engineering toolchains.
- Analyze tool interfaces, APIs, data exchange mechanisms, and integration architectures.
- Assess integration feasibility, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Develop integration evaluation plans and execute integration assessments.
- Identify integration gaps, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Produce comprehensive integration assessment reports and recommendations.
- Support development of enterprise MBSE ecosystem architectures.
3. Validation, Verification, and Testing
The engineer shall:
- Create test strategies for MBSE tools, frameworks, and integrations.
- Design and develop systems engineering-based test cases and test scripts.
- Execute tool qualification, validation, and verification activities.
- Perform functional, system, user acceptance, and regression testing.
- Document test results, observations, defects, and corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement of MBSE testing methodologies and automation frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and tool qualification requirements.
4. Systems Engineering and MBSE Framework Support
The engineer shall:
- Understand and analyze MBSE framework requirements and implementation needs.
- Support development of model-based approaches for:
- Requirements Engineering
- Functional Architecture
- Logical Architecture
- Physical Architecture
- Interface Definition
- Verification and Validation
- Traceability Management
- Ensure system design information remains integrated and traceable within a unified data model.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to refine MBSE processes, workflows, and best practices.
- Support adoption and deployment of enterprise MBSE methodologies across programs.
