Job Summary
The Senior DevOps SME (Infrastructure) is a subject matter expert (SME) responsible for designing, governing, and optimizing enterprise-scale cloud and on-premise infrastructure platforms. The role focuses on automation, scalability, reliability, and security of infrastructure services that enable application delivery and IT operations.
They act as a technical authority and advisor, driving DevOps best practices across infrastructure domains.

1. Infrastructure Architecture & Strategy
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure architectures (cloud/on-prem).
- Define infrastructure standards, blueprints, and reusable frameworks.
- Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives (cloud migration, platform engineering).
2. Infrastructure Automation (IaC)
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation.
- Drive full automation of infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
- Establish standardized, reusable infrastructure modules.
3. Cloud Platform Management
- Own and optimize cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Manage compute, storage, network, and platform services at scale.
- Ensure cost optimization, performance efficiency, and capacity planning.
4. Reliability, Monitoring & Operations
- Define and implement monitoring, observability, and alerting frameworks.
- Ensure infrastructure uptime, resilience, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
5. Security & Compliance (Infra / DevSecOps)
- Implement infrastructure-level security controls, governance, and compliance standards.
- Ensure adherence to enterprise security policies (IAM, network security, encryption).
- Integrate security into infrastructure lifecycle (DevSecOps).
6. DevOps Enablement & Platform Engineering
- Build and maintain self-service infrastructure platforms / PaaS capabilities.
- Enable developers with standardized environments and automated provisioning.
- Collaborate with application teams for environment readiness and scalability.
7. Technical Leadership & SME Responsibilities
- Act as infrastructure SME for architecture reviews and solution design.
- Mentor DevOps engineers and infrastructure teams.
- Define governance models, best practices, and operating procedures.
Skill Requirements
Infrastructure & Cloud
- Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP)
- Strong understanding of networking, storage, compute, and virtualization
- Experience with hybrid cloud / multi-cloud environments
DevOps & Automation
- Mastery in IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
- CI/CD integration for infrastructure deployments
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash)
Platform & Containerization
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container-based platforms
- Platform engineering / infrastructure abstraction
Monitoring & Operations
- Tools: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog
- Strong expertise in incident management and troubleshooting
Security
- Knowledge of cloud security, IAM, compliance frameworks
- Experience in vulnerability management and secure infrastructure design
Soft Skills
- Stakeholder management and consulting mindset
- Strong communication (especially in complex infra programs)
- Leadership, mentoring, and governance orientation
Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s / Master’s in Computer Science / IT / Engineering
- 8–12+ years experience in DevOps / Infrastructure / Cloud engineering (typical SME band)
- Certifications (preferred):
- AWS Solutions Architect / DevOps Architect
- Azure Architect / GCP Professional Architect
- Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD)
