Objective & Role Summary

The SAP BW Platform Technical Lead serves as the overall operational owner and technical coordinator for the SAP BW reporting ecosystem. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure uninterrupted operation of the BW platform, including production data loads, reporting services, platform support processes, issue management, user support coordination, release management, and platform governance.

This role functions as the technical point of contact for stakeholders, coordinates support activities across offshore teams, manages production priorities, establishes operational standards and procedures, and ensures adequate support coverage is maintained across all critical functions.

While familiarity with BW/4HANA modernization initiatives is highly desirable, the primary objective is maintaining operational excellence, platform reliability, and service continuity across the existing SAP BW landscape.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of SAP BW / BW on HANA and BW/4HANA experience.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in:
    • SAP BW
    • SAP BW on HANA
    • BEx Query Designer
    • Analysis for Office (AO)
    • SAP Business Objects
    • SAP ECC and SAP Extractors
    • Process Chains
    • DTPs
    • Open Hub
    • SAP BODS
  • Experience supporting enterprise reporting environments operating on a 24/7 support model.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • BW/4HANA
    • S/4HANA
    • Databricks
    • DBT
    • Informatica
    • SAP BPC
  • Experience establishing production support procedures and operational controls.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed support teams.
  • SAFe Agile experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Operations

  • Overall ownership of SAP BW platform operational stability.
  • Ensure completion of daily, weekly, monthly, quarter-end, and year-end data load activities.
  • Monitor production platform health and reporting service availability.
  • Ensure platform availability and business continuity objectives are achieved.

Production Support Leadership

  • Manage critical production incidents and escalations.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting activities across multiple support teams.
  • Delegate support activities to offshore resources.
  • Ensure timely issue resolution and communication.
  • Act as final escalation point for production issues.

Support Coverage & Resource Management

  • Establish support schedules to ensure effective 24/7 operational coverage.
  • Maintain resource backups for all critical support functions.
  • Develop cross-training plans to eliminate single points of failure.
  • Ensure knowledge transfer and operational readiness across all team members.

Operational Standardization

  • Develop and maintain operational runbooks and support procedures.
  • Create and maintain knowledge base articles.
  • Define standard operating procedures (SOPs) for:
    • Data load monitoring
    • Incident management
    • Recovery procedures
    • Report troubleshooting
    • User support
    • Change management
  • Drive continuous operational improvements.

Platform Governance

  • Lead testing and validation activities for:
    • SAP patches
    • Version upgrades
    • Infrastructure changes
    • HANA upgrades
    • Business Objects upgrades
  • Coordinate release readiness reviews.
  • Oversee BW role rationalization and authorization governance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with audit and security requirements.

Strategic Support

  • Participate in BW/4HANA readiness activities and assessments.
  • Support BO Exit assessments and planning efforts.
  • Provide input into modernization roadmaps.

Support architecture and planning discussions when required.

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
