SME - Mainframe Automation Tools

Job Summary

The Subject Matter Expert in Support & Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and quality resolution of escalations and incidents. This position is pivotal in driving customer satisfaction through effective analysis and adherence to service level agreements. The expert will leverage their deep knowledge in Mainframe and Message Automation to mentor team members and enhance operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance mainframe components using PL/1 or C with CICS.
  • Analyse existing application logic to ensure correct behaviour is maintained during migration.
  • Work with Datacom DB structures, VSAM files, and related access logic.
  • Support data structure changes, code adjustments, and performance checks.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and provide impact assessments.
  • Build and execute unit tests, and support system and integration testing.
  • Collaborate with mainframe DBAs, technical leads, PMs, and testing teams.
  • Troubleshoot defects and provide timely resolutions.
  • Follow coding standards, documentation requirements, and change management processes.
  • Ensure zero functional change where required, especially during migration phases.

Skill Requirements

  • Strong hands‑on experience in mainframe development.
  • Expertise in PL/1, or alternatively strong skills in C programming with CICS.
  • Experience working with data stored in VSAM and Datacom (preferred).
  • Understanding of mainframe concepts such as JCL, batch jobs, scheduling, file systems, and online transactions.
  • Experience in enterprise‑grade legacy system enhancement or migration projects.
  • Ability to read, analyse, and modify complex codebases.
  • Good problem‑solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

Other Requirements

  • Exposure to Datacom‑to‑VSAM migration work.
  • Prior experience in banking or financial services.
  • Familiarity with onshore/offshore delivery models.
  • Understanding of performance tuning in mainframe applications.
