We are seeking a Release Operations Engineer to join the Wearables Productivity and Infrastructure team. This role is the operational backbone of Meta's wearable device software releases, responsible for supporting the branch-to-release lifecycle across multiple product lines including AI-powered smart glasses, display glasses, and wrist-worn devices.
The ideal candidate will support release branch management, change request operations, build tracking, and cross-functional release communication for Meta's rapidly growing wearables portfolio. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role that directly affects the shipping velocity and quality of millions of consumer devices.
Core Responsibilities
1. Release Branch Operations (Primary - ~50% of time)
- Support operation on release branches across all Wearables product lines (5+ concurrent release trains)
- Process change requests (blocking and non-blocking changes) for merge into release branches
- Track and communicate with regular cadence
- daily build of interest candidates to cross-functional stakeholders
- release change status updates
- Coordinate cherry-picks, merge conflict resolution, and diff landing on release branches
- Support hotfix release cycles including branch cuts, builds, and deployments
2. Release Health Monitoring & SEV Response (~20% of time)
- Monitor release branch health including build status, ingest pipelines, and test suites
- Escalate issues by
- filing release-impacting SEVs (build failures, test regressions)
- Pulling in the right engineering teams for faster resolution possible
- Track release quality bar test failures
3. Release Tooling & Automation (~15% of time)
- Report Release Infrastructure issues with details
- Operate automation and AI skills
- Build and maintain release operational workflows and runbooks
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual overhead
4. Cross-Functional Communication & Coordination (~15% of time)
- Serve as the release operations point of contact for 20+ engineering teams
- Cooperate with release leadership to meet release timelines and communicate impacts of schedule changes on release operation
Required Skills & Experience
Must-Have
- 3+ years experience in Release Engineering / Release Operations for consumer electronics or mobile platforms
- Familiarity with Android platform - AOSP builds, system services, app ingest pipelines
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines - build systems, automated testing, release branching strategies
- Git/Mercurial proficiency - cherry-picks, merge conflict resolution, branch management at scale
- Change management experience - evaluating risk of code changes landing in stabilized branches
- Strong communication skills - ability to write clear status updates for diverse audiences (engineering, TPM, QA, leadership)
- SEV response experience - triage, escalation, and driving resolution under time pressure
- Scripting/automation skills - Python, shell scripting, or similar for operational automation
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams - juggling 3-5 parallel release trains
Strongly Preferred
- Experience with Meta's internal tooling ecosystem (Release Beast, Phabricator/Diffs, Tasks, Buck2)
- Familiarity with embedded systems / firmware release processes
- Experience with wearable devices or IoT product release cycles
- Experience working with globally distributed teams
- Prior experience in a high-velocity release environment (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly cadences)
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Scuba, ODS, or similar observability platforms for release health monitoring
- Background in test infrastructure (emulators, automated test suites, build test frameworks)
- Exposure to
- AI/ML feature integration on embedded devices
- security patch management for Android devices
