Senior Java Technical Lead - RESTful API, Spring Boot

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Application Developer to join the HMRC Customs Declaration Service (CDS) program, a strategic UK government initiative responsible for processing customs declarations for goods entering and leaving the UK through ports and airports. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a large-scale, business-critical platform that will shape the future of UK trade and customs operations for decades to come.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java development, Spring Boot, Microservices, API development, and AWS cloud technologies, along with experience in database development, system integration, and performance testing. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and supporting scalable applications while collaborating with cross-functional Agile teams in a highly secure and regulated environment.

Candidates must be UK Nationals with a minimum of 5 years continuous UK residency to meet project security and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Java applications.Build and enhance RESTful APIs and Microservices-based solutions.Develop applications using Spring Boot and related Java frameworks.Integrate applications with databases, IBM MQ, and external services.Deploy and support cloud-based applications within AWS environments.Write and maintain Shell scripts for automation and operational support.Monitor application performance using Grafana and related tools.Conduct performance and load testing using JMeter.Troubleshoot application, integration, and production issues.Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.Collaborate with architects, testers, business analysts, and DevOps teams.Maintain project documentation using Confluence and track activities in JIRA.Follow coding standards, security guidelines, and best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
