Job Summary

We are seeking an accomplished Scrum/Engineering Lead to spearhead the modernization of a revenue-critical payments and reporting platform (approx. /$300M in annual revenue impact) into a cloud-native, AI-powered, real-time data ecosystem. In this senior role, you will lead a distributed team (onshore USA & offshore India) and take ownership of end-to-end delivery, technology strategy, and stakeholder alignment for a high-visibility Payments Modernization program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program & Team Leadership: Provide technical and delivery leadership for a cross-functional Agile team spanning the US and India. Ensure coordination, communication, and high performance across onshore-offshore development squads.
  • Modernization Strategy & Delivery: Define and drive the overall modernization strategy, roadmap, and execution for migrating a Mainframe-based platform onto a cloud-native architecture. Oversee all phases of design, development, migration, and testing to meet transformative business goals.
  • Solution Architecture & Design: Establish the target architecture for a payments data and reporting platform, emphasizing API-first development, microservices, and event-driven design. Ensure scalability, real-time data processing, and adherence to enterprise architecture standards.
  • Domain Modernization (ISO 20022 & SWIFT): Lead initiatives to modernize payment messaging standards (ISO 20022, SWIFT) within the platform, updating legacy processes to support new industry standards and real-time payment capabilities.
  • AI-Enabled Development: Champion the use of AI-assisted development and migration tools (e.g., code generation, automated refactoring) to accelerate modernization efforts and improve code quality. Integrate GenAI tools (like GitHub Copilot) into the development and testing workflow for productivity gains.
  • Quality, Observability & Reliability: Implement best practices for observability, monitoring, and reliability engineering across the new platform (logging, alerting, telemetry), to ensure robust performance, uptime, and traceability in a mission-critical production environment. Establish CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for continuous delivery and infrastructure automation.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary technical liaison to business and IT stakeholders. Collaborate closely with product owners, enterprise architects, and other teams to align modernization deliverables with business objectives and compliance/security requirements. Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and roadmap to executive sponsors

Skill Requirements

  • Experience: 12–18+ years of IT experience, including proven leadership in complex software transformation programs. Extensive background in leading distributed Agile teams and managing cross-functional delivery.
  • Payments Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of Payments/Banking systems and standards, especially wire payments, SWIFT, and ISO 20022 message formats and processing flows. Familiarity with high-value payment systems, reporting and compliance requirements is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Mastery of enterprise software development using Java (J2EE) and related ecosystems – Spring Boot microservices, RESTful APIs, event-driven frameworks (e.g. Kafka), and relational/NoSQL databases (e.g. Oracle/DB2, MongoDB). Strong microservices and API design skills, with a track record of building scalable, high-performance distributed systems.
  • Architecture & Modernization: Demonstrated ability to architect and modernize legacy mainframe/COBOL systems into modern cloud-based platforms. Experience with mainframe data stores (DB2) and re-engineering monolithic applications to microservices or cloud architecture is required. Skilled in designing reusable components and establishing architectural standards across teams.
  • DevOps & CI/CD: Hands-on experience with DevOps practices and tools – CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Maven/Gradle), containerization/orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation). Demonstrated ability to implement automated build, test, and deployment processes for large-scale systems.
  • Leadership & Communication: Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Able to guide and mentor global teams, foster a collaborative engineering culture, and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders. Comfortable working in a client-facing environment, driving consensus and managing priorities at senior levels.

Other Requirements

Scrum Master or Agile certifications (CSM, PMI-ACP, or SAFe Agilist) are a plus. Prior experience with AI/ML integration in software development (e.g. predictive analytics, intelligent automation) or cloud migration projects in the financial domain will be advantageous
