SAP ABAP Consultant – Release Management

Experienced SAP ABAP Consultant with strong expertise in SAP Release Management, transport governance, code deployment, and production support. Skilled in coordinating release cycles, conducting impact analysis, managing transports, supporting testing activities, and ensuring successful deployment of ABAP developments across complex SAP landscapes with minimal business disruption. Proven ability to collaborate with functional, Basis, security, and business teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and stable SAP releases.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of SAP ABAP developments across Development, QA, Pre-Production, and Production environments.
• Coordinate SAP release activities and ensure timely deployment of ABAP objects, enhancements, interfaces, reports, forms, and workflows.
• Review, validate, and manage transport requests while ensuring compliance with release governance and change management procedures.
• Perform impact analysis and dependency assessment for code changes across integrated SAP modules.
• Collaborate with functional consultants, Basis teams, and business stakeholders to ensure release readiness.
• Support SIT, UAT, Regression Testing, and Production Validation activities during release cycles.
• Monitor and resolve transport-related issues, deployment failures, and post-release defects.
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, security guidelines, and SAP development best practices.
• Prepare release documentation, deployment plans, rollback strategies, and audit evidence.
• Participate in Go-Live, cutover, hyper care, and post-production support activities.
• Track release metrics, transport status, risks, dependencies, and escalations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance release efficiency, system stability, and deployment quality.
• Work closely with Change Advisory Boards (CAB) and release governance teams to obtain approvals and ensure compliance.
• Provide production support and root cause analysis for ABAP-related incidents and issues.

Key Responsibilities

1. To oversee quality assurance processes, ensuring adherence to coding standards , implementation of best practices and perform Value creation and KM activities.
2. To ensure process improvement and compliance| and participate in technical design discussion and to review technical documents.
3. Responsible for shaping the overall project strategy working closely with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, deliverables and keeping track of schedule to ensure on time delivery as per the defined quality standards.
4. To work closely with the development team, On-site Engineers to understand technical requirements and work with them to address and resolve technical issues.
5. Identify & flag potential risks and issues that may impact project timelines or quality, develop mitigation strategies / contingency plans to address risks and provide regular project updates to key stakeholders.
