Job Summary

An Optical Metrology Engineer is responsible for developing, validating, and maintaining optical
measurement systems used to inspect, characterize, and ensure the quality of components and systems.
The role involves applying advanced optical techniques to measure dimensions, surface properties,
alignment, and performance of precision parts in manufacturing or research environments.

Key Responsibilities

● Design, develop, and implement optical metrology systems and measurement techniques
● Perform precision measurements using techniques such as interferometry, microscopy,
spectroscopy, and laser-based systems
● Analyse measurement data to evaluate product quality, process capability, and system
performance
● Develop calibration procedures and ensure compliance with metrology standards
● Collaborate with manufacturing, R&D, and quality teams to define metrology requirements
● Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to optical measurement equipment and processes
● Analyze Optical Measuring Machine (OMM) report and MSOP and diagnose correlation failures
between different tools.
● Automate measurement systems using software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW)
● Maintain and improve measurement accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility
● Generate technical reports, documentation, and validation plans
● Support new product development by providing dimensional and functional analysis
Required Qualifications
● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related
field
● 3+ years of experience in optical metrology or precision measurement systems
● 3+ years of experience in OMM
● Strong understanding of GD&T. Familiar with standards like ASME Y14.5, ISO1101.
● Strong understanding of optical principles (interference, diffraction, polarization)
● Experience with optical measurement tools such as interferometers, profilometers,
spectrometers, or vision systems
● Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
● Proficiency in data analysis and programming (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
● Familiarity with calibration standards and metrology best practices
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience in semiconductor, photonics, or precision manufacturing industries
● Ability to program automated OMM recipe that follows MICD
● Knowledge of ISO standards related to metrology and quality
