Job Description MuleSoft Omni Gateway (formerly Flex Gateway) Administrator / SME Role Title MuleSoft Omni Gateway (Flex Gateway) Administrator / SME Primary Skill MuleSoft Anypoint Platform – Omni Gateway (Flex Gateway) Administration Experience 6–10+ years in MuleSoft/API integration, including hands-on Flex/Omni Gateway administration Engagement Immediate requirement – candidate may need to start within a week Work Mode As per customer engagement guidelines (onsite/remote/hybrid – to be confirmed) Role Summary We are looking for an experienced MuleSoft Omni Gateway (formerly Anypoint Flex Gateway) Administrator / Subject Matter Expert to support an active set of MuleSoft upgrade initiatives. The role requires a hands-on specialist who can independently own gateway architecture guidance, setup and configuration of gateways and proxies, day-to-day administration and operational governance, and act as a trusted advisor to engineering teams on deployment, management, and security best practices. This is an immediate, priority requirement. Key Responsibilities 1. Architecture & Best-Practice Guidance Advise on MuleSoft Omni Gateway (Flex Gateway) architecture, sizing, and topology decisions across managed (CloudHub 2.0 / Runtime Fabric) and self-managed (Docker, Kubernetes, Linux) deployment models. Recommend Connected Mode vs. Local Mode configuration strategies based on CI/CD maturity and governance needs. Define standards and reference patterns for consistent gateway rollout across teams and environments. 2. Gateway & Proxy Setup and Configuration Install, configure, and upgrade Omni/Flex Gateway instances, including migration from earlier Flex Gateway versions. Configure API proxies for REST, SOAP, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, and MCP/agent traffic. Set up control-plane connectivity (Anypoint API Manager / Runtime Manager), registration, and secure communication (mTLS/HTTPS) between gateway and control plane. 3. Gateway Administration & Operational Governance Own day-to-day administration: policy application, SLA tiers, distributed rate limiting (Redis-backed), and version/patch management. Establish operational governance – change control, environment promotion, access management, and audit/compliance tracking for gateway configurations. Set up monitoring and logging (Fluent Bit, Anypoint Monitoring, and integration with external tools such as Splunk/ELK) and drive incident/RCA processes for gateway issues. 4. Deployment, Management & Security Advisory Advise application and platform teams on the optimal gateway deployment approach for new and existing APIs. Define and enforce security configurations – TLS/mTLS, certificate lifecycle, OAuth/JWT, IP allow-listing, and policy-based access control. Support extension of governance to AI/agent workloads (LLM calls, agent tools, MCP) and, where applicable, unified governance across MuleSoft and third-party gateways (e.g., Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway). Required Skills & Experience 6–10+ years of overall MuleSoft / API integration experience, with demonstrable hands-on experience administering Anypoint Flex Gateway / Omni Gateway. Strong working knowledge of Anypoint Platform – API Manager, Runtime Manager, Exchange, and Anypoint Monitoring. Experience with gateway deployment models: CloudHub 2.0, Runtime Fabric, and self-managed installs via Docker/Kubernetes/Linux. Hands-on experience with API policies (rate limiting, SLA tiers, OAuth 2.0, JWT validation, IP allow-listing, custom policies). Solid understanding of security fundamentals – TLS/mTLS, certificate management, and secure control-plane connectivity. Experience leading or supporting MuleSoft version/gateway upgrade initiatives in a production environment. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices for gateway configuration (YAML-based Local Mode, GitOps).
