Job Summary
Release, Deployment and Environment Management Lead to oversee the complex end-to-end deployment, configuration, and rollout operations for store fulfillment systems. This role will bridge the gap between software development, IT operations, and physical warehouse engineering. This role will be responsible for orchestrating multi-system rollouts, managing environment stability, driving CI/CD automation, and ensuring that code, configurations, and physical hardware layers are perfectly synchronized for flawless operations
Key Responsibilities
Release & Rollout Coordination –
- Orchestrate end-to-end release cycles across complex warehouse execution systems and hardware layers.
- Coordinate deployment schedules with site operations, engineering teams, and external vendors to minimize warehouse downtime.
- Manage the rollout pipeline across multiple fulfillment centers simultaneously.
Deployment & Configuration Management-
- Own deployment management for applications, microservices, and edge computing infrastructure deployed within the fulfillment centers.
- Maintain configuration integrity by managing environment-specific variables, database schemas, and automation hardware profiles.
- Establish roll-back strategies and disaster recovery protocols for failed deployments.
Environment Management & Test Support-
- Govern non-production environments (Sandbox, QA, Staging, Pre-Prod) to ensure they accurately mirror live warehouse topologies.
- Provide environment triage support for QA, automated regression testing, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Manage test data simulation frameworks to emulate physical hardware (e.g., PLCs, scanners, conveyors) during software validation.
CI/CD Automation Support –
- Design, maintain, and scale CI/CD pipelines optimized for hybrid cloud and on-premise warehouse infrastructures.
- Automate manual infrastructure provisioning and configuration steps to speed up release cycles.
- Integrate automated quality gates, security scans, and validation tests into the deployment pipeline.
Skill Requirements
Technical Skills –
- Fulfillment Domain Knowledge: Experience in supporting Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) (e.g., Manhattan, Blue Yonder, SAP EWM).
- Core Technologies: Conceptual or hands-on understanding of compiled languages like C++ and Pascal, including managing their build artifacts, compiler environments, and binary distributions.
- CI/CD & Automation: Mastery of tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Configuration & IaC: Strong proficiency with Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef for managing distributed edge infrastructure.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Deep understanding of Docker and Kubernetes for microservices deployment.
- Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) paired with on-premise/edge computing architecture.
- Scripting & Databases: Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, along with strong SQL skills for database deployment scripts.
- Operating Systems & Scripting: Strong command of Linux/Unix and Windows Server environments, paired with scripting capabilities (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
Soft Skills & Core Competencies:
- Risk & Incident Management: Ability to make high-stakes, real-time decisions during production rollouts to protect warehouse throughput.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Exceptional communication skills to align software developers, QA engineers, project managers, and physical warehouse floor managers.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven track record of managing releases across multiple system environments and internal teams.
