Job Summary

An Apptio Senior Developer is responsible for designing, building, configuring, and maintaining IBM Apptio (TBM – Technology Business Management) solutions. The role bridges IT, Finance, and Business, ensuring cost transparency, accurate chargeback/showback models, and actionable dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

Apptio Configuration & Development

  • Configure and customize IBM Apptio TBM modules such as:
    • Cost Transparency
    • IT Planning
    • IT Benchmarking
    • Cloudability (if applicable)
  • Build and maintain:
    • Cost models
    • Allocation logic
    • Calculated metrics
    • Reports and dashboards

Data Integration & Management

  • Design and manage data sources feeding Apptio:
    • GL (General Ledger)
    • HR systems
    • Asset Management
    • CMDB
    • Cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Perform:
    • Data validation
    • Reconciliation
    • Data normalization and transformation

TBM & Financial Modeling

  • Implement TBM taxonomy and best practices
  • Support:
    • Cost allocation (direct, indirect, shared costs)
    • Showback and chargeback models
    • Service-based costing
  • Work closely with Finance to align IT costs with business units

Reporting & Analytics

  • Create executive-level dashboards and reports
  • Ensure reports clearly explain:
    • IT spend trends
    • Unit costs
    • Service consumption
  • Provide insights to support decision-making

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work with:
    • Finance teams
    • IT leaders
    • Business stakeholders
  • Translate business requirements into Apptio solutions
  • Support UAT and production releases

Support & Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot data issues, model errors, and performance issues
  • Enhance existing Apptio models based on new requirements

Support month-end and quarter-end financial processes

Skill Requirements

Mandatory Skills

  • Hands-on experience with IBM Apptio / Apptio TBM
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • IT Financial Management
    • TBM framework
    • Cost allocations and financial modeling
  • Experience with data analysis and data modeling
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of:
    • SQL (basic to intermediate)
    • Data ETL concepts
    • APIs or flat-file integrations (CSV, XLS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with:
    • CMDB
    • Cloud cost management (nice to have)

Domain Knowledge

  • IT infrastructure (servers, storage, network)
  • Applications and services costing
  • Cloud and on‑prem IT environments

Good-to-Have Skills

  • IBM Apptio certification
  • Experience in:
    • IT Planning
    • Cloudability
  • Knowledge of:
    • Agile / SAFe delivery
    • FinOps practices
  • Consulting or implementation experience
