Job Summary

Job Title: Java Backend Lead

Role Overview
Lead the design and delivery of scalable Java backend services using Spring Boot, microservices, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Kubernetes. Combine hands-on development with technical leadership, mentoring, and ownership of backend quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs.

  • Define service boundaries, API contracts, integration patterns, and technical standards.

  • Deploy and manage containerized applications on GCP using Docker and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).

  • Lead technical discussions, code reviews, solution design, and development estimates.

  • Mentor developers and collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and architecture teams.

  • Implement security, automated testing, logging, monitoring, and performance improvements.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Support CI/CD pipelines and ensure timely delivery of maintainable solutions.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and JPA/Hibernate.

  • Expertise in microservices, REST APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.

  • Practical GCP experience, including GKE, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, IAM, and Cloud Logging/Monitoring.

  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker, including deployments, scaling, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, messaging platforms, and caching technologies.

  • Knowledge of resilience patterns such as retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, and idempotency.

  • Experience with Git, Maven/Gradle, CI/CD pipelines, and unit/integration testing.

  • Proven technical leadership, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with high-volume ecommerce or enterprise applications.

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies. In addition, this role is eligible for the following benefits subject to company policies: medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, life, accidental death & dismemberment, and disability insurance; employee assistance program; 401(k) retirement plan; 10 days of paid time off per year (some positions are eligible for need-based leave with no designated number of leave days per year); and 10 paid holidays per year.
