Job Summary
A Networking Regression Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and stability of network infrastructure or software products. They design test environments, automate repetitive testing, and identify network faults or regressions introduced by new updates, patches, or configuration changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Test Automation & Scripting: Develop, maintain, and execute automated regression test suites using languages like Python, TCL, or Bash.
- Environment Setup: Build and configure complex, simulated network topologies to mimic production environments.
- Fault Isolation & Debugging: Analyze test results, identify network anomalies, and troubleshoot bugs to isolate whether the root cause is a hardware, software, or configuration failure.
- Protocol Testing: Conduct deep testing of routing, switching, and security protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLAN, VPN, Firewalls).
- Performance Analysis: Monitor throughput, latency, and packet loss before and after code merges to ensure network integrity
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed logs of test results, generate metric reports, and file actionable bug tickets in tracking systems (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla) for development teams.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of networking fundamentals and models (OSI model, TCP/IP, L2/L3 switching/routing).
- Programming: Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Ansible, shell scripting).
- Tools: Familiarity with traffic generators (e.g., Ixia, Spirent), packet analyzers (Wireshark), and virtualization (VMware, KVM).
- Certifications: Certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are highly preferred
