Job Summary
Mainframe Scheduling (OPC)
Cynical Skills Strong experience with IBM OPC/TWS (Tivoli Workload Scheduler) or equivalent enterprise scheduling tools. Knowledge of batch scheduling, workload automation, and production job management. Experience creating and maintaining:
Key Responsibilities
1. Batch Schedule Planning & Administration Perform all required pre-batch activities. Schedule resources and batch services for production workloads. Define, maintain, and document production batch schedules and started tasks. Install and document system-related batch jobs in the automated scheduling tool. Create and maintain scheduling calendars. Administer and maintain the automated production scheduling system.
2. Production Scheduling & Optimization Resolve scheduling conflicts within production cycles. Schedule urgent, on-demand, and ad-hoc batch jobs. Identify critical batch execution paths using operational statistics. Identify jobs suitable for parallel processing and optimize batch schedules. Support load balancing across servers where applicable. Support special schedules during peak business periods. Continuously recommend and implement scheduling improvements.
3. Monitoring & Operational Control Monitor scheduled batch jobs and batch execution status. Monitor scheduler-related incidents and recommend scheduler database improvements. Execute operational requests such as Hold, Release, Skip, or Cancel jobs/schedules according to procedures. Perform daily Batch Checklist activities. Support environments with multiple scheduling masters.
4. Incident, Problem & Change Management Participate in Problem Management and Change Management activities to ensure availability objectives are met. Record, track, and route incidents to appropriate support teams. Execute predefined recovery actions for abnormal batch events. Manage and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for scheduling and batch processing issues. Escalate unresolved incidents according to defined procedures.
5. Governance & Service Improvement Develop and maintain job acceptance and implementation standards. Collect operational performance metrics from internal and external customers. Analyze scheduling performance and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements. Support continuous service improvement initiatives across batch operations.
