Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled PRTG Administrator to manage, optimize, and further develop our monitoring landscape based on Paessler PRTG Enterprise Monitor. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, visibility and performance of IT infrastructure and applications by continuously improving our sensor architecture, dashboards, alerts, and reporting. You will collaborate closely with network, server, application and security teams.
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring Administration & Operations • Operate, maintain and optimize the PRTG monitoring environment (on‑premises and cloud, including Scansor and AutoMonX • Perform system updates, patching, backups and license management • Monitor PRTG system health, storage usage and performance • Manage user accounts, roles and permissions • Provide 2nd/3rd-level support for monitoring-related incidents • Sensor & Probe Management • Configure and maintain sensors for servers, network devices, applications, databases, cloud services, IoT and environmental systems • Deploy and manage Core and Remote Probes for distributed locations • Troubleshoot sensor failures and optimize sensor configurations • Alerting & Notification Management • Create and maintain alert rules, notifications, and escalation paths • Ensure reliable detection of outages, performance degradations, and unusual behavior • Fine-tune thresholds to reduce false positives while maintaining monitoring accuracy • Dashboarding & Reporting • Build Adjust custom dashboards, maps, and reports for IT operations, management and service owners, using PRTG onboard features and Grafana • Visualize KPIs such as availability, capacity, and performance • Support teams with monitoring insights and provide data for root‑cause analysis • Integration & Automation • Support Integration of PRTG with external tools such as o SIEM/SOC systems o ITSM ticketing tools (ServiceNow) o Notification channels (WebEx, Email, SMS) • Automate repetitive tasks using PowerShell, Python, or the PRTG API • Develop custom sensors (REST, SQL, scripts) when required • Documentation & Support • Document sensor standards, naming conventions, monitoring guidelines and procedures • Support and train IT teams on PRTG dashboards, alerts and basic usage.
Skill Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications • Hands‑on experience with PRTG Network Monitor administration • Good understanding of IT infrastructure o Networks (SNMP, NetFlow, WMI, ICMP) o Windows/Linux servers o Storage, virtualization, cloud services • Ability to write or adapt simple scripts (PowerShell, Python, Batch) • Understanding of APIs, REST sensors, and custom probes • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Other Requirements
Preferred Qualifications • Experience with monitoring strategies in distributed environments • Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change) • Knowledge of automation or infrastructure-as-code concepts - optional • Experience integrating PRTG with ServiceNow • Experience with Grafana - optional
