Job Summary
Role Summary The Network Monitoring Engineer is responsible for proactively monitoring, maintaining, and ensuring the availability and performance of enterprise network infrastructure. The role involves real-time monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of network monitoring processes. Key Responsibilities • Monitor network infrastructure (LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi) using monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, etc.) • Identify, analyze, and respond to network alerts and incidents in real time • Perform L1/L2 troubleshooting of network issues and escalate to higher support teams when required • Ensure adherence to SLAs and KPIs for incident response and resolution • Maintain monitoring dashboards and ensure accuracy of alerts and thresholds • Generate daily/weekly/monthly reports on network performance and availability • Collaborate with network, security, and infrastructure teams for issue resolution • Participate in incident reviews and support root cause analysis (RCA) • Implement automation and tuning of monitoring systems to reduce false alerts • Support change management activities and planned maintenance windows Required Skills • Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Routing & Switching) • Hands-on experience with network monitoring tools • Basic knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management) • Familiarity with ticketing tools (ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.) • Ability to analyze logs and troubleshoot network issues • Good communication and documentation skills Preferred Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field • Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent • Experience in 24x7 network operations center (NOC) environment Key KPIs • Network uptime / availability • Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) • Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR) • SLA adherence • Alert accuracy (false positives vs valid alerts)
