Job Summary

The VMware Hypervisor L2 Engineer will provide day-to-day operations, monitoring, and support for VMware environments (ESXi, vCenter, VMware Aria suite) across global Colo and remote sites as defined in the SOW. The role aligns with Hybrid Compute Services (Section 5.0), ensuring availability, performance, incident resolution, and compliance with ITIL processes and SLAs within a managed services model.

Key Responsibilities

 Perform day-to-day management and operations support of VMware infrastructure (ESXi hosts, clusters, vCenter) and remote VxRail/PowerEdge sites. • Regularly check VMware cluster health, host status, and VM. • Handle VM provisioning, decommissioning, cloning, snapshots, and migrations (vMotion/Storage vMotion). • Support incident, problem, change, and configuration management activities. • Proactively monitor infrastructure via VMware Aria Operations / monitoring tools. • Participate in major incident bridges and restoration activities. • Monitor CPU, memory, datastore utilization, and perform tuning. • Support capacity planning and optimization aligned with SRE and SLA requirements. • Perform ESXi patching, firmware updates, and lifecycle management using LCM. • Coordinate with application and infra teams for patch validation and rollout. • Support backup validation, restore activities, and DR drills. • Ensure adherence to data retention and backup policies. • Coordinate with Dell (VxRail/PowerEdge), VMware, and OEMs for break-fix and escalations. • Support automation via Terraform / Ansible (VM provisioning workflows). • Contribute to monitoring dashboards and alert tuning. • Create/maintain SOPs, runbooks, KB articles. • Participate in audit, compliance, and governance reporting.

Skill Requirements

Strong experience in: • VMware ESXi, vCenter (6.x / 7.x / 8.x) • Cluster management (HA, DRS) • vMotion, Storage vMotion Hands-on with: • VMware Aria Operations (vROps), Aria Automation, Log Insight • Dell VxRail / PowerEdge infrastructure • Storage (vSAN, NAS, Dell Unity, ZFS – basic integration) • Lifecycle Manager (LCM), patching & upgrades • Monitoring & alerting tools (Datadog, SolarWinds, etc.) • Basic scripting: PowerCLI / PowerShell

Other Requirements

Experience in: • Hybrid cloud environments (AWS, OCI basics) • Terraform / Ansible automation • Backup tools (Data Domain, Veeam, Commvault) • Security & vulnerability remediation (Qualys, patching cycles) • Familiarity with: ITIL processes & ServiceNow
