Job Summary
Unix / Linux System Administrator (Fresher / L1) We are looking for motivated freshers / early career engineers interested in building a career in Unix / Linux System Administration and Data Center Operations. This role focuses on supporting production environments under the guidance of senior administrators, following defined processes, and gradually developing hands on expertise in enterprise infrastructure operations.
Key Responsibilities
Support day to day system administration activities while adhering to defined SLAs. • Follow and comply with ITIL processes for Incident, Change, and Problem Management. • Handle assigned tickets and service requests with supervision. • Perform initial troubleshooting for operating system and basic hardware-related issues. • Assist senior engineers in root cause analysis (RCA) and problem resolution. • Follow established processes, SOPs, and runbooks for system operations. • Support installation, configuration, patching, and migration activities under guidance. • Monitor systems to ensure maximum uptime as per SLA requirements. • Gain exposure to multi-geo and 24x7 support environments. • Assist in maintaining test environments used for validation and learning. • Support backup and restoration activities as per documented procedures. • Participate in patching, upgrades, security hardening, and audits as required. • Assist with basic data center operations and consolidation efforts. • Perform routine system health checks, reporting, and documentation. • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams under supervision. • Actively participate in training, mentoring sessions, and knowledge sharing.
Skill Requirements
Basic understanding of Unix/Linux Operating Systems (any one flavor). • Awareness or exposure to: o Server installation and configuration concepts o Patching and package management basics o User, group, and permission management • Basic understanding of: o File systems and logical volume concepts o Backup and restore concepts o Performance monitoring fundamentals • Introductory knowledge of shell scripting for simple administrative tasks. • Awareness of SAN / NAS storage concepts. • Basic understanding of security baselines and system hardening. • Exposure to LDAP / NIS concepts is a plus (theoretical or lab-level). • Awareness of monitoring tools and alerting concepts (any tool).
