Job Summary
Storage Administrator – L2 Experience: 3-6 years Role Summary The role is responsible for day-to-day operations, monitoring, and support of Windows Server platforms, VMware virtual infrastructure, and Azure Local / HCI environments. The engineer will ensure platform stability, incident resolution, patch compliance, and operational execution in line with BP HCS operational and ITSM standards while supporting L3 teams for complex escalations and lifecycle activities. Key Responsibilities • Perform day-to-day operations and administration of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) in an enterprise environment • Operate and support VMware vSphere ecosystem: o ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, HA/DRS o Datastores, VM provisioning, snapshots, and performance monitoring • Support Azure Local / Azure Stack HCI operations: o Cluster health monitoring and basic troubleshooting o Node status checks, storage health, and alert resolution o Support upgrades and maintenance activities under L3 guidance • Execute routine operational activities: o VM provisioning/decommissioning o Access management and service requests o Certificate updates, service restarts, and system checks • Monitor and manage: o System performance, alerts, and event logs o Capacity utilization (compute/storage) • Perform initial troubleshooting and incident resolution: o Windows OS, VMware, and Azure Local issues o Escalate unresolved issues to L3/vendor with proper diagnostics • Ensure compliance with: o Patch management cycles o Security baselines and vulnerability remediation • Maintain: o SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge base articles o CMDB updates and documentation • Participate in: o Change implementation and validation o RCA discussions and continuous improvement initiatives Mandatory Skills Windows Server • Hands-on administration of Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 • Basic understanding of: o Active Directory (users, groups, OU, GPO basics) o DNS/DHCP fundamentals • Patch management using WSUS/SCCM/MECM (or equivalent tools) • Troubleshooting: o Event logs, services, RDP connectivity, performance issues VMware • Strong operational knowledge of: o ESXi, vCenter, clusters, HA/DRS o VM lifecycle (provisioning, snapshots, migrations) • Basic understanding of: o VMFS/NFS datastores o vSwitches (vSS/vDS), VLANs, NIC teaming • Troubleshooting: o VM performance issues o vMotion failures o Host and datastore alerts Core Azure Local / HCI Skills • Basic hands-on experience with Azure Stack HCI / Azure Local environments • Understanding of: o Cluster operations and health monitoring o Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) basics • Exposure to: o Azure Arc-enabled infrastructure o HCI networking concepts Beneficial / Preferred Skills • Basic PowerShell scripting for automation and task execution • Exposure to Azure services: o Azure Monitor, Backup, Site Recovery • Knowledge of: o Azure Arc and hybrid cloud integration o Linux VM administration (basic level) • Understanding of: o Enterprise storage concepts (SAN/NAS) o Backup and recovery operations • Certifications (good to have): o AZ-800 / AZ-801 o AZ-104 o VMware VCP-DCV (preferred) • Soft skills: o Strong ownership and accountability o Ability to work in 24x7 support environments o Good communication skills for incident updates and documentation
