Key Responsibilities
Linux HCBU (L1) Key Responsibilities: Linux System Operations & Monitoring: Perform basic Linux OS administration, service status checks, system monitoring, and health checks across RHEL, CentOS, and SUSE servers. Basic Storage & LVM Tasks: Assist with basic disk space checks, LVM expansions under senior guidance, mount point verification, and file system cleanup. First-Level Incident Response: Monitor alert dashboards, triage incoming user/system tickets, log incidents, perform initial troubleshooting, and escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams. User & Access Administration: Perform standard user account creation, group assignments, password resets, SSH key updates, and standard sudo access requests. Routine Patching & Maintenance: Execute routine, pre-approved patching steps, system reboots, and scheduled maintenance tasks following standard operating procedures (SOPs). Backup & Monitoring Verification: Verify daily backup job statuses, perform baseline system health checks, and report backup failures or disk usage anomalies. Documentation & Compliance: Log standard incident updates, follow compliance procedures, and maintain up-to-date shift handovers and operational runbooks.
Skill Requirements
Technical: Linux Fundamentals: 1–3 years of hands-on experience in basic Linux administration (RHEL, CentOS, or SUSE). Command-Line & Storage Basics: Proficiency with standard Linux CLI commands, basic LVM concepts, disk usage checks (df, du), and basic service management (systemctl). Basic Networking: Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP, ping, netstat, SSH, FTP, NFS, and basic network troubleshooting. User Administration: Familiarity with user/group management, permissions (chmod/chown), and standard access controls. Non-Technical Good analytical aptitude for identifying basic system errors and following troubleshooting playbooks. Strong adherence to ITIL operational guidelines, change management procedures, and escalation paths. Ability to work effectively in a 24x7 rotational shift environment. Good to Have Skills: Basic exposure to Shell/Bash scripting for automated health checks. Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM) or cloud consoles (Azure, AWS). Basic knowledge of ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Remedy, or Jira). Soft Skills: Clear written and verbal communication skills for handovers and ticket notes. Eager learner with strong attention to detail when following operational runbooks. Reliable team player with a customer-service oriented mindset.
