Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) to support and maintain DB2 databases in a z/OS environment. The role involves database administration, monitoring, performance tuning, backup and recovery, database implementation, and production support. The candidate will participate in on-call support activities, resolve database-related incidents, and ensure database availability, integrity, and optimal performance for mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
Key Roles & Responsibilities Production Support & Incident Management Provide 24x7 on-call support for DB2 DBA activities. Troubleshoot and resolve RTS (Real-Time Statistics) alerts and production incidents. Handle and resolve database-related issues raised by application development teams. Monitor dashboards, alerts, and database health indicators proactively. Escalate unresolved issues to appropriate support teams and track them through closure. Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Database Availability Management Develop, maintain, and execute database health checks for tablespaces, indexes, and other DB2 objects. Identify and resolve objects in restrictive or pending states. Schedule, monitor, and maintain database utility jobs (REORG, COPY, RUNSTATS, etc.). Ensure high availability and reliability of critical database environments. Database Integrity & Maintenance Execute DB2 utilities to maintain physical and logical database consistency. Identify and remediate issues that may compromise data integrity. Perform database object modifications to support application enhancements and changes. Manage table, index, tablespace, and schema changes as required. Performance Tuning & Optimization Monitor database performance and identify tuning opportunities. Analyze and resolve performance issues related to: Slow response times Locking and contention SQL inefficiencies Unexpected application behavior Implement performance improvements based on application growth and workload trends. Work closely with development teams to optimize SQL and database design. Backup & Recovery Perform database backup and recovery activities as required. Support recovery scenarios including: Media failures Database software failures Application-related recovery requirements Operational errors Validate recovery procedures and ensure recovery readiness. Database Implementation Create and implement logical and physical database objects in DB2 z/OS environments. Support application teams during database deployments and migrations. Assist in identifying database components required for successful application implementation. Ensure adherence to enterprise DBA standards and best practices.
Skill Requirements
Mandatory 3–4 years of hands-on experience in DB2 Database Administration on IBM z/OS. Strong understanding of DB2 database architecture and administration. Proficiency in SQL development, query optimization, and performance tuning. Experience with DB2 utilities such as REORG, COPY, RUNSTATS, and RECOVER. Knowledge of backup, recovery, and
