Job Summary
The AVD (Azure Virtual Desktop) / Azure Infrastructure SME is responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and support of Azure-based infrastructure services with a strong focus on Azure Virtual Desktop environments. The role involves managing cloud infrastructure, virtual desktop solutions, identity services, security controls, automation initiatives, and operational governance to ensure high availability, performance, and end-user experience across enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and support Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including host pools, application groups, workspaces, FSLogix profiles, and session hosts. Design, deploy, and maintain Azure infrastructure components including Virtual Networks, Storage Accounts, Virtual Machines, Load Balancers, Azure Backup, and Azure Security services. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to virtual desktops, infrastructure services, performance, user experience, and connectivity. Manage AVD image creation, application packaging, golden image maintenance, and lifecycle management. Implement and support Azure identity and access solutions utilizing Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, and RBAC. Configure and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for Azure workloads. Collaborate with security, networking, workplace, and application teams to deliver secure and compliant cloud services. Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, Azure Automation, ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform. Support capacity planning, cost optimization, performance tuning, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
Skill Requirements
6 to 10+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure, virtualization, and cloud technologies. 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure infrastructure services. Experience managing Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and hybrid identity environments. Hands-on experience with FSLogix, profile management, session host optimization, and user experience monitoring. Knowledge of Azure Networking including VNet, Peering, VPN, ExpressRoute, NSGs, Azure Firewall, and Load Balancers. Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud. Strong understanding of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, MFA, and Zero Trust principles. Experience with automation and scripting using PowerShell and Azure Automation. Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform) and DevOps practices.
Other Requirements
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert. Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate. Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty certification. Experience with Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, VMware Horizon, or Windows 365 Cloud PC. Knowledge of Intune, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, and modern device management. Experience with Azure Landing Zones and cloud governance frameworks. Exposure to FinOps, cloud cost optimization, and chargeback/showback models. Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks including CIS, NIST, ISO 27001, and Zero Trust architecture. Experience supporting large-scale global enterprise VDI and Digital Workplace environments. Understanding of Agile, DevOps, and ITIL service delivery methodologies.
