Job Summary

SAP Backend Developer (ABAP) to join our India‑based SAP Test Automation & Process Innovation team.

This role focuses on designing, developing and optimizing backend solutions for SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP, ensuring Clean‑Core‑aligned architectures, enabling robust integrations, supporting validated (GxP) environments, and driving continuous improvement of global SAP backend applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend logic using ABAP, ABAP OO, CDS Views, AMDP, RAP/CAP
• Lead the replacement and modernization of SAPscript & SmartForms, including migration to modern frameworks (e.g., Adobe Forms, Fiori‑based output) 
• Develop new forms or enhance existing ones, including print programs, interface logic and data provisioning 
• Provide expert L3 AMS support, including deep‑dive debugging, root‑cause analysis and performance optimization 
• Build and optimize OData services for Fiori/UI5 and system integrations 
• Design and maintain integration scenarios using SAP Gateway, IDoc, RFC, SOAP/REST APIs 
• Ensure Clean‑Core‑aligned development, upgrade‑safe extensibility and adherence to SAP S/4HANA development guidelines 
• Create technical specifications, architecture documents, test scenarios and deployment documentation 
• Collaborate with module consultants, frontend developers and architects to deliver end‑to‑end solutions 
• Participate in SAP upgrades, rollouts, migrations and continuous improvement initiatives 
• Mentor junior developers and act as a technical SME for backend and form technologies 
• Manage external development partners and review delivered code for quality and compliance

Skill Requirements

• > 10 years of experience in SAP backend development, incl. strong knowledge in ABAP, ABAP OO, CDS Views, OData, BAdIs, enhancements
• Extensive experience with SAPscript, SmartForms and Adobe Forms, incl. redesign and migration 
• Experience modernizing legacy forms into strategic SAP S/4HANA output solutions 
• Strong understanding of SAP Gateway, RFC, IDoc and integration technologies 
• Experience in validated (GxP) SAP environments is desirable
• Deep debugging, performance tuning and technical problem‑solving skills 
• Familiarity with DevOps tools, CI/CD, Git, and SAP transport processes 
• Ability to lead technical topics and mentor junior colleagues 
• Experience with agile and classic delivery methodologies
• Ability to create functional and technical specifications and test documentation 
• Good understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) processes based on ITIL
• Strong collaboration skills with application teams and service providers
• Proactive, independent working style with high attention to security and compliance
• Very good written and spoken English skills; German language skills are an advantage
• Experience in agile and classical project delivery models
• Team player with the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines
• Ability to quickly understand complex processes and issues, with strong communication skills
