EHR Ancillary Applications Analyst
About the Role
Client’s EHR Services practice supports healthcare organizations in optimizing Electronic Health Record (EHR) ecosystems and the ancillary clinical applications that integrate with core EHR platforms such as Epic and Oracle Cerner. Ancillary applications include clinical systems that support diagnostic, therapeutic, and departmental workflows adjacent to the core EHR (e.g., imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, cardiology, perioperative, specialty clinical systems).
As an Entry-Level EHR Ancillary Applications Associate, you will support the operation, maintenance, and optimization of integrated clinical software solutions under the guidance of senior consultants and application leaders. This role is designed for early-career professionals seeking hands-on experience in healthcare IT, clinical workflows, and enterprise application support.
Key Responsibilities
Ancillary Application Support
- Support day-to-day operational and project-based activities for ancillary clinical applications integrated with Epic or Oracle Cerner EHR platforms (e.g., lab, imaging, pharmacy, perioperative, cardiology, or specialty clinical systems) under senior team guidance
- Assist with application build, configuration, and maintenance, including system parameters, workflows, order integrations, interfaces, and user settings
- Participate in workflow analysis to understand how ancillary systems support clinical and operational processes and how they integrate with the core EHR
Testing, Issue Resolution, and Optimization
- Support application testing activities, including unit, integrated, and regression testing, using established test scripts and validation procedures
- Assist with troubleshooting application issues, interface errors, workflow gaps, and end-user reported concerns; escalate issues appropriately
- Support go-live, upgrade, and post-go-live stabilization activities, including issue tracking and resolution support
Collaboration and Documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including EHR analysts, interface teams, technical infrastructure, reporting, and clinical stakeholders
- Interface with third-party vendors and EHR platform representatives (e.g., Epic, Oracle Cerner, or ancillary system vendors) during troubleshooting or enhancement activities
- Create and maintain application documentation such as build specifications, workflow diagrams, test scripts, and status reports
- Participate in team and client meetings to communicate progress, risks, and upcoming milestones
Compliance and Security
Follow established data security, regulatory, and protected health information (PHI) standards when supporting clinical systems
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Clinical Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 2 years of experience in healthcare IT, enterprise IT, clinical systems support, or technical support roles
- Foundational understanding of IT concepts such as applications, databases, interfaces, networking, or system workflows
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced project environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint)

Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Epic, Oracle Cerner, or other EHR platforms, or to ancillary clinical applications that integrate with EHRs
- Internship or academic experience supporting healthcare systems, clinical workflows, or health IT projects
- Familiarity with healthcare integration concepts (e.g., HL7, interfaces, interoperability)
- Awareness of IT service management or delivery methodologies (Agile, ITIL, Lean, or similar)
- Interest in pursuing EHR or ancillary application vendor training or certifications
