Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to design and development of automation tools that migrate CAD data, drawings and associate PLM metadata between leading CAD and PLM platforms. The role combines deep hands-on knowledge of CAD tools and their SDKs with PLM integration and strong Python engineering and offers the opportunity to apply AI to make large-scale migrations faster, more accurate and less manual.
You will be defining architecture, writing core code, guiding developers through design and code reviews, and working closely with CAD/PLM consultants and customer stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and development of the CAD migration automation tool covering extraction, transformation, validation and loading of CAD and PLM data.
- Develop CAD automation using native SDKs/APIs to batch-process parts, assemblies and drawings, and integrate with PLM systems for items, revisions, BOMs and attributes.
- Translate source-to-target mapping rules into configurable tool logic and build automated validation (geometry, structure, drawings, metadata) with migration reports.
- Write clean, modular, well-tested Python code for the core framework, orchestration, data mapping and reporting.
- Provide technical guidance through design and code reviews, define best practices, and work with consultants and customers to resolve migration issues.
- Handle CAD structure complexities such as assembly references, configurations / family tables, missing or broken references and duplicate files.
- Design automated validation: geometry and mass-property comparison, assembly structure checks, drawing view / dimension / annotation checks and metadata reconciliation.
- Generate migration and exception reports that engineering users can act on.
- Work with CAD/PLM consultants, customers and QA to gather requirements, resolve migration issues and support pilot and production runs.
Skill Requirements
Must-Have Skills and Experience
- CAD tools and SDK: Strong hands-on experience with one or more leading CAD tools and their SDK/API, such as Siemens NX (NX Open), PTC Creo (Creo Toolkit / J-Link / Object TOOLKIT), SolidWorks API, Autodesk Inventor API or AutoCAD (.NET API / ObjectARX).
- PLM tools: Hands-on experience with one or more PLM/PDM systems such as Siemens Teamcenter (ITK, SOA, PLM XML, IPS Upload), PTC Windchill (PDMLink, Info*Engine, REST services, WBM), SolidWorks PDM or Autodesk Vault, including data model, BOM, revisions and CAD integrations.
- CAD process knowledge: Solid understanding of product design workflows: part modeling, assemblies, references, configurations / family tables and release processes.
- CAD drawings: Working knowledge of engineering drawings: views, sections, dimensions, GD&T, annotations, title blocks, parts lists / BOM tables, and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5 / ISO).
- Migration project experience: Involvement in at least one end-to-end CAD or PLM migration project (e.g. Creo to NX, SolidWorks / PDM to Windchill or Teamcenter, legacy PDM to modern PLM).
- Python: Strong Python programming skills, including OOP, packaging, file and data handling (XML / JSON / CSV), database access and automated testing.
Other Requirements
Preferred Skills
- Multi-CAD exposure: Experience across more than one CAD platform, and with neutral formats such as STEP, JT, Parasolid and IGES.
- Additional languages: C#/.NET, Java or C++ for SDK-level development.
- Engineering practices: Git, CI/CD, containerization and cloud deployment.
- Industry: Exposure to manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, industrial machinery or heavy engineering domains.
Soft Skills
- Clear communication with both technical teams and engineering business users.
- Ownership mindset and ability to drive technical decisions independently.
- Comfortable working with global, onsite/offshore teams and customers.
