Job Summary
We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable, cloud-native platforms that power aviation data products. This role blends backend development with Python/Django and AWS cloud architecture, focusing on high-throughput data pipelines for real-time and analytics-driven applications, leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and modern cloud practices to deliver secure, reliable, and performant solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Development: Build and maintain backend services using Python and Django for aviation and analytics applications.
- Cloud Architecture: Design and deploy AWS-based systems following best practices for scalability, security, and reliability.
- Data Pipelines: Develop and optimize high-throughput pipelines for ingesting and processing large volumes of flight and operational data.
- Database Design: Implement hybrid architectures using AWS Aurora/PostgreSQL (SQL) and DynamoDB (NoSQL).
- API Development: Create RESTful APIs integrated with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, and event-driven workflows.
- Infrastructure as Code: Automate deployments using AWS CDK, Terraform, and/or CloudFormation.
- Containerization: Use Docker for packaging and deploying services where appropriate.
- Collaboration: Work closely with AWS, contractors, and international internal teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions.
- Monitoring & Optimization: Ensure system reliability and performance using CloudWatch and logging tools.
- Documentation & Reviews: Produce technical documentation and participate in architectural discussions and design reviews.

- Strong proficiency in Python and Django.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, Aurora, API Gateway, VPC).
- Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL database design.
- Experience with data pipelines or data-intensive systems.
- Familiarity with IaC tools (Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation).
- Knowledge of Docker, Git, and CI/CD workflows.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Other Requirements
- Experience integrating Django with AWS services (S3, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, SQS).
- Background in aviation, aerospace, or safety-critical systems.
- Exposure to real-time analytics, large-scale data processing, or event-driven architecture.
- Experience with Athena, Redshift, or analytical workloads.
- AWS Certification (Cloud Practitioner or higher).
- Experience collaborating with cloud vendors or AWS Professional Services.
