Job Summary
The resource should be expert in Application DB2 DBA. Able to perform DBA activities for data migration project
Modernization of core insurance application databases from legacy CA Datacom/DB to IBM DB2 (z/OS).
Key Responsibilities
• Analyze legacy architecture: Evaluate existing CA Datacom/DB elements, table structures, and Active Data Dictionary definitions to plan relational equivalents in DB2.
• Schema Mapping & Design: Lead logical-to-physical database design, translating Datacom entities into optimized DB2 tablespaces, partitions, and indexes.
• Data Cleansing & Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive data validation, reconciliation, and integrity runbooks to verify parity post-migration.
• Cutover Management: Participate in database cutover, rollbacks, and post-migration stabilization windows during scheduled application releases.
2. Application Support & SQL Engineering
• Application Retrofitting: Collaborate with application developers to assist in converting legacy database access logic (e.g., Datacom/DB commands, COBOL calls) into native, high-performing DB2 SQL.
• Query Performance Tuning: Conduct proactive SQL statement analysis, trace execution plans, and optimize complex queries using tools like DB2 Explain.
• Deployment Automation: Review, test, and implement application database change objects through continuous delivery tools
3. Security, Operations & Governance
• Access Control: Implement robust database security parameters in alignment with Zurich Insurance compliance frameworks and Mainframe security tools (RACF/ACF2).
• Resilience Planning: Define backup, data extraction (DXT), and high-availability frameworks to protect highly sensitive production insurance data.
Skill Requirements
• Experience: 8+ years of total Database Administration/Engineering experience, with at least 3+ years dedicated to database migration or modernization programs.
• Domain Background: Prior experience in highly regulated financial services, banking, or the insurance sector is highly preferred.
• Technical Mastery:
• Deep, hands-on knowledge of IBM DB2 for z/OS database object management, utilities (REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, LOAD/UNLOAD), and JCL.
• Core working knowledge of CA Datacom/DB architecture, its data dictionary, and its internals to decode legacy schemas.
• Expert-level understanding of relational algebra, physical data modeling, database concurrency, and advanced SQL troubleshooting.
