Job Summary

Component & Subsystem Lab Test Technician

Position Summary

The Component & Subsystem Lab Test Technician is responsible for supporting engineering development, validation, failure analysis, and characterization activities for component and subsystem hardware. This role performs sample preparation, electrical, RF, optical, and subsystem testing, maintains laboratory equipment and test stations, assists with fixture fabrication and hardware debugging, and ensures accurate documentation, inventory control, and operational readiness of the lab environment.

This position requires strong hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to support engineering teams through product development, validation testing, and laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

Sample Preparation & Hardware Support

  • Perform sample preparation activities including:
    • Wafer dicing
    • Die extraction
    • Die mounting
    • Wire bonding
    • Evaluation Board (EVB) assembly and preparation
  • Assemble, modify, and troubleshoot laboratory hardware and test setups.
  • Perform soldering, rework, and debugging of simple wiring assemblies and prototypes.

Support hardware station builds, maintenance, and upgrades

Skill Requirements

Testing & Characterization

  • Execute repetitive and off-shift testing activities including:
    • DC electrical testing
    • RF testing
    • Optical testing
    • Engineering Validation Test (EVT) activities
    • Failure Analysis (FA) support
    • Subsystem characterization
    • Special characterization studies
  • Collect and document die-level skew measurements and statistical survey data.
  • Ensure testing is performed according to established procedures and quality standards.
  • Test Equipment & Qualification

    • Perform station qualification and capability (gage) studies.
    • Maintain and manage golden samples and calibration standards.
    • Develop and maintain test documentation, procedures, and operating instructions.
    • Coordinate and track calibration activities for laboratory equipment.

    Data Analysis & Reporting

    • Generate EVT data rollups and summary reports using existing scripts and tools.
    • Review collected data for completeness and report findings to engineering teams.
    • Support engineers with data collection, organization, and presentation.

Other Requirements

Lab Operations & Compliance

  • Maintain laboratory operational readiness and organization.
  • Ensure security software, operating systems, and laboratory tools remain current in accordance with IT requirements.
  • Follow all company safety policies and laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for testing, equipment, and inventory.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in:
  • 2+ years of hands-on laboratory, manufacturing, engineering technician, or test technician experience.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment such as:
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Digital multimeters
    • Power supplies
    • Signal generators
    • Spectrum analyzers
  • Basic soldering and electronic assembly skills.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with data collection, reporting, and spreadsheet tools.
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with semiconductor, photonics, RF, or optical component testing.
  • Wire bonding, die attach, wafer handling, or sample preparation experience.
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation tools and scripting (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar).
  • Experience supporting EVT, DVT, or failure analysis activities.
  • Basic machining and fixture fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of calibration and measurement system analysis (Gage R&R).
  • Experience with inventory management systems and BOM control.
Maximum Salary (US):  86000
Minimum Salary (US):  45000

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
