Key Responsibilities
Database Engineering & High AvailabilityArchitecture Design: Implement, configure, and maintain high-availability database environments, including Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Data Guard, and SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups.Disaster Recovery: Establish, test, and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies using Oracle RMAN and SQL Server native backup/restore mechanisms.Cloud & Hybrid Integration: Manage database workloads running on-premises and engineered systems (like Oracle Exadata) or hosted in cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, or OCI).2. Performance Tuning & OptimizationQuery Analysis: Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks, locking issues, and resource contention.Execution Plans: Optimize complex PL/SQL (Oracle) and T-SQL (SQL Server) code, stored procedures, indexes, and execution plans.Proactive Monitoring: Set up automated alerts and dashboards using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or third-party monitoring platforms.3. Migrations, Upgrades & PatchingCross-Platform Migration: Lead or assist in complex data migration projects, including migrating schemas and data from legacy Oracle databases to SQL Server (or vice versa).Lifecycle Management: Plan and execute database engine upgrades (e.g., upgrading Oracle 19c to newer release tracks or SQL Server modern cycles) and apply regular security patches (CPUs/SPU).ETL Pipeline Support: Assist data teams with structural design, data replication, and data movement across disparate systems via Linked Servers or Oracle DB Links.4. Security & ComplianceAccess Control: Manage user authentication, roles, privileges, and database audits in compliance with strict corporate data governance and security frameworks.Data Protection: Implement Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), data masking, and secure network connections for both environments
Skill Requirements
Oracle Ecosystem: Deep administrative knowledge of Oracle Database (19c and above), Multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB), ASM, RAC, and Data Guard.SQL Server Ecosystem: Advanced administration of MS SQL Server (2016 through 2022+), including AlwaysOn, Transactional Replication, and Integration Services (SSIS).Scripting Languages: Strong proficiency in writing complex PL/SQL and T-SQL code, alongside OS-level scripting (Bash, Shell, or PowerShell) for automation.Operating Systems: Solid understanding of Linux/Unix administration (RedHat/Oracle Linux) and Windows Server environments as they relate to database hosting.
