Job Summary
Own the complete fibre and network-connectivity architecture from cable landing stations and carrier networks to campus meet-me rooms, data halls, network fabrics, servers and every rack. Establish, integrate, operate and maintain resilient optical infrastructure for continuous mission-critical service.
Key Responsibilities
Required Outcomes
- Resilient dual-route connectivity is established from cable landing stations and carriers to the campus.
- Controlled internal fibre architecture from meet-me rooms to every data hall, row and rack.
- Tested integration of fibre, routers, switches, servers, storage and graphics processing unit clusters.
- High-availability operations are supported by monitoring, capacity control and emergency restoration.
Landing station and carrier connectivity
- Coordinate landing-station operators, domestic and international carriers, internet service providers and dark-fibre providers for route feasibility, capacity, wavelengths, hand-offs, cross-connects, testing, activation and service-level agreements.
- Provide physically separated carriers, long-haul routes, ducts, chambers, campus entries and meet-me rooms; identify shared-risk groups and remove avoidable single points of failure.
Campus and internal fibre architecture
- Define outside-plant and inside-plant architecture, backbones, single-mode and multimode fibre, frames, panels, closures, containment, labelling, fire-stopping, earthing and spare capacity.
- Develop topology from meet-me rooms through core, aggregation, spine, leaf and top-of-rack switches to every rack, supported by route drawings, core allocations, rack elevations, port maps and patch schedules.
Server, routing and network integration
- Integrate servers, storage, graphics processing unit clusters, network interface cards, transceivers and management networks; validate speeds, breakouts, capacity, redundancy, latency, loss budgets and interoperability.
- Translate Layer 2, Layer 3, Internet Protocol, virtual local area network, Border Gateway Protocol, Open Shortest Path First, multiprotocol label switching, Ethernet virtual private network and virtual extensible local area network requirements into physical fibre design.
Delivery, testing and operations
- Prepare specifications, quantities and tenders; supervise pulling, blowing, splicing, termination and restoration; validate optical time-domain reflectometer, loss, continuity, polarity and dispersion tests.
- Control route, core, wavelength, circuit, port, rack, patching, test and as-built records; run monitoring, preventive maintenance, incident response and emergency restoration.
