Job Summary

Azure MSSQL DBA L3 Job Description

Experience: -

  •  12+ years of hands-on experience working on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure database technologies.
  • Strong experience in leading database operations teams and managing enterprise-scale environments..

Certification: -

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate [Essential]
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert [Desired]

Responsibilities: -

  • Adhering to SLAs and ensuring timely delivery of database services.
  • Leading and mentoring the DBA team; providing technical guidance and training.
  • Handling tickets, service requests, and escalations across Azure and on-prem environments.
  • Performing root cause analysis (RCA) for critical incidents.
  • Troubleshooting database and platform-related technical issues.
  • Creating and maintaining SOPs/MOPs and ensuring process adherence.
  • Overseeing successful completion of all database-related activities.
  • Ensuring database standards, governance, and compliance are maintained.
  • Designing and validating backup and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
  • Driving customer satisfaction through proactive support and improvements.
  • Identifying gaps and suggesting improvements and new technologies.
  • Monitoring SLA adherence and team performance.
  • Identifying skill gaps and planning training/upskilling initiatives.
  • Managing P1/P2 escalations and coordinating with L3/customer teams.

REDIS L3 Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities: -  REDIS L3

  • Adhering to SLAs.
  • Mentoring / Training Team Members.
  • Handling tickets / requests.
  • Perform root cause analysis.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Defining processes [SOP/MOP's] and ensuring that the processes are adhered to.
  • Oversees and is responsible for successful completion of database tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer database standards.
  • Responsible for strategizing a backup plan and test plan for failure scenario.
  • Improves and maintains customer satisfaction.
  • Suggests Database environment Gaps, Improvements and new technologies.
  • Monitoring and maintaining SLA requirements by the team members.
  • Identify Skill gaps and plan for training / knowledge updating.

 

Skill Requirements

Technical Requirements      (REDIS)                           

  • Proficient in managing REDIS database / Cluster - installation, configuration, upgrade, patching, maintenance, security, sysadmin functions and administration.
  • Knowledge of REDIS cluster monitoring tool - Managing, Configuring, setting up alerts and troubleshooting
  • Evaluate the Database Server Hardware                                          
  • Define/Recommend/Maintain Database Standards and Architecture                                 
  • Recommend Server H/W, REDIS Server Editions for a new Build.                                    
  • Research and Recommend Patch management for database/instance and Impact Analysis.                         
  • Initiate need and Impact Analysis for Database Migration/Upgrade                                  
  • Technical Consultation to L2/L3 and Customer                                  
  • Vendor Support and Interaction                                        
  • Monitor and optimize REDIS database performance and capacity planning.                                     
  • Troubleshoot database issues, maintain database systems availability and scalability.                                  
  • Create and maintain REDIS databases required for development, testing, Integration, QA and production usage.
  • Performs the capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases.                               
  • The DBA should work closely with Server, Backup and storage administrator to meet Backup, Hardware, Storage and Operating system requirements.
  • The DBA should work closely customer to understand the requirements and standards.                               
  • Perform ongoing analysis and tuning of the REDIS database.                                          
  • Install new versions of the REDIS database and its features and any other tools that access the REDIS database.
  • Application code promotion and migrations of programs, database changes, reference data changes and menu changes through the development life cycle if applicable                                 
  • Performs database re-organizations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum uptime of the database.
  • Troubleshoots with problems regarding the databases, replication and database related Tools.                    
  • Good knowledge of physical database design and responsible for the physical database design                    
  • Ability to perform database and operating system performance monitoring and the necessary adjustments.        
  • Excellent skill in High availability, replication technologies and failover                                            
  • Implement and enforce security requirements for REDIS databases.                                
  • Recommend and Review Backup and Recovery Strategies.                               
  • Provides technical support to application development teams.                                         
  • Having experience of DR Solution/Implementation/Execution through various sync methods.                       
  • Designing strategy towards Capacity Management for DB tracks                                      
  • Designing REDIS Server Security (Server hardening, Auditing, compliance)                                     
  • Good knowledge of the Unix operating system(s)
  • Weekly review of incidents/tickets
  • Weekly review of CHGs completed/Canceled.
  • Weekly review of recommendations made to the DBs
  • Automate routine DB jobs.
  • Optimize day-today DB activities.
  • Documentation and DB procedures write-up.      

Knowledge of other Databases is added advantage.

Other Requirements

Technical Requirements    (MSSQL)                               

  • Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) administration (2012–2022 versions).
  • Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS & PaaS services, including:
  • Azure Virtual Machines (SQL on IaaS)
  • Azure SQL Database
  • Azure SQL Managed Instance
  • Proficient in installation, configuration, patching, upgrade, and maintenance of MSSQL environments.
  • Experience in High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR):
  • Always On Availability Groups
  • Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)
  • Log Shipping, Replication
  • Knowledge of Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery (ASR), and DR drills.
  • Strong expertise in performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Experience with database monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, SQL Profiler, DMVs).
  • Ability to design, implement, and maintain database architecture and standards.
  • Hands-on with security implementation:
  • TDE (Transparent Data Encryption)
  • Always Encrypted
  • Role-based access control (RBAC
  • Experience in capacity planning, storage management, and performance management.
  • Proficiency in automation using PowerShell, T-SQL scripts, or Azure Automation.
  • Ability to perform database migrations (on-prem → Azure, cross-platform migrations).
  • Experience in backup and recovery strategy design and validation.
  • Knowledge of Redis is an added advantage.
