Job Description – L3+ VMware / Hyper-V Administrator Position Senior Engineer / Lead Engineer – VMware & Hyper-V (L3+) Experience • 8-12+ years of IT Infrastructure experience • 5+ years of hands-on experience in VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V • Experience supporting enterprise-scale virtualized environments Role Summary The L3+ VMware/Hyper-V Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, optimization, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of enterprise virtualization platforms. The role acts as the highest technical escalation point for virtualization-related incidents, changes, problem management, capacity planning, and disaster recovery activities. Key Responsibilities Virtualization Platform Management • Administer VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, VMware Cluster Services, and Hyper-V environments. • Manage VM provisioning, cloning, migration, templates, snapshots, and resource allocation. • Configure and maintain HA, DRS, vMotion, Storage vMotion, and Failover Clustering. • Create and manage virtual switches, distributed switches, VLANs, and virtual networking. Infrastructure Operations • Monitor virtualization infrastructure health, performance, and availability. • Manage CPU, Memory, Storage, and Network resource utilization. • Perform datastore creation, expansion, and storage optimization. • Configure and manage multipathing and storage connectivity. Incident & Problem Management • Act as L3 escalation point for critical incidents and outages. • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and post-incident reviews. • Troubleshoot complex VMware ESXi, vCenter, Hyper-V, and cluster-related issues. • Analyze logs and performance metrics to identify recurring issues. Change & Release Management • Execute infrastructure changes following ITIL processes. • Review and implement firmware, patches, and hypervisor upgrades. • Validate virtualization infrastructure after maintenance activities. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity • Plan and execute DR drills. • Support backup and recovery solutions. • Ensure business continuity through HA and failover mechanisms. • Capacity & Performance Management • Forecast infrastructure growth requirements. • Perform performance tuning and optimization. • Recommend hardware refresh, consolidation, and virtualization best practices. Automation & Documentation • Develop automation using PowerShell, PowerCLI, and scripting tools. • Create and maintain SOPs, runbooks, architecture documents, and KB articles. • Drive continuous service improvement initiatives. Vendor & Stakeholder Management • Coordinate with OEMs and vendors for critical issues. • Work with storage, backup, network, cloud, and application teams. • Provide technical leadership during infrastructure projects.
