Job Summary
Provide end-to-end DB2 UDB support and technical leadership for enterprise environments, ensuring availability, performance, security, and operational excellence while leading a team of DBAs and driving ITSM compliance. Act as L3 escalation point for complex DB2 issues (performance, locking, outages, replication) Lead DB2 operations including HADR, Q-Replication, backup/recovery, and DR readiness Ensure database integrity, availability, and performance through proactive monitoring and tuning Own capacity planning, patching, upgrades, and database enhancements Maintain security, compliance, and audit readiness Promote automation, SOP standardization, and operational efficiency
Key Responsibilities
Core DBA Responsibilities Monitor databases, dashboards, and alerts; troubleshoot issues proactively Perform backup/recovery, space management, and performance tuning Handle BAU requests, incident resolution, and ticket tracking (SLA-driven) Manage database access, roles, and permissions Optimize data/log utilization and resolve locks/contention issues Support multi-DB environments (preferred: Oracle/MSSQL/PostgreSQL; NoSQL like Cassandra/Couchbase) Leverage tools such as Puppet, GitLab, and monitoring platforms Leadership & ITSM Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of DBAs (L1/L2/L3); drive upskilling and capability building Act as primary escalation point for critical database issues Provide technical leadership during Major Incidents (MI); drive resolution and stakeholder updates Guide team during production outages, HADR failovers, Q-Replication issues, and DR events Facilitate incident bridge calls, assign tasks, and ensure ITSM process adherence Conduct RCA, trend analysis, and drive preventive actions Ensure compliance with SLA, change management, and security standards Oversee shift handovers, workload distribution, and on-call readiness Review and approve critical DB changes, deployments, and maintenance activities Drive automation, continuous improvement, and proactive problem management Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and vendor teams
Skill Requirements
DB2 UDB Database Administration on Linux Strong L3+ troubleshooting, performance tuning, and HA/DR expertise Knowledge of ITSM processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management) Scripting/automation mindset (Shell/Python preferred)
